COURSE INFO

Course Description: This course offers a little bit of everything: rolling hills, water crossings, macadam roads, open fields, single track through the woods, jeep trails, did we mention the rolling hills? The incredible vistas will have you believing you are no longer in PA but some place out west. There are 7 major hills to climb, 6 of which make up the “Back of the Beast.” You’ve been warned.

Aid Stations:
There will be 3 Aid Stations along the course located approximately 2-3 miles apart. Water will be served at all Aid Stations. Lemon-lime flavored Gatorade sports drink will be served at AS 2 & 3, as well as fresh watermelon.

The final quarter mile is downhill to the finish.

Cut-off time:
There is a cut off time at the 7 Mile Aid Station of 2 hours from the start – you must arrive at that aid station before that time. If you enter the aid station after that time you will automatically receive a DNF and  be asked to stop. Transportation will be offered back to the start.

Disclaimer:
This race is not ideal for the beginner-level runner. The average runner will finish this 9.3 mile race between 1½ to 2 hours. All runners are encouraged to carry their own water as there will be stretches of trail which are open with no shade. All sales are final. Race deferments will not be accepted. Bib transfers are allowed through July 3, 2016 by contacting the race director.

No dogs or jogging strollers allowed on course.

Suggested training:

  • Hills! Lots and lots of hills.
  • Squats.
  • Lunges.
  • More hills.
  • Running with a hydration pack, belt or handheld.
  • And … how about some hill repeats for good measure.
